Runner to Rep: What Does a Sports Tours Rep Do?

One of the most common questions we get is: “What does a Sports Tours rep actually do?” The truth is our reps are the backbone of the Sports Tours family. It’s not a job for anyone – it takes a deep passion for running, a wealth of knowledge, and a love for connecting with people. To give you a glimpse into this role, we’re sharing the story of Sam Tisbury, one of our experienced running reps who has been part of countless events.

Sam’s Journey to Becoming a Sports Tours Rep

Sam’s running journey began in 2018, inspired by his uncle Byron, who lived with Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle-wasting condition. Watching his uncle’s resilience despite his physical limitations motivated Sam to take on the London Marathon for Muscular Dystrophy UK. Although the race turned out to be the hottest on record, Sam crossed the finish line with his uncle and aunt cheering him on from home, a moment he treasures to this day.

“The running community is the best,” Sam says. “Everyone comes from different backgrounds and has unique goals, but we all support one another. Running is also my escape from the real world, a chance to disconnect and recharge.”

From that first London Marathon, Sam’s love for running only grew. He returned to London in 2021 to improve his time, ran a sub-3:30 marathon in Ljubljana, and decided to enjoy a more relaxed experience at the NYC Marathon in 2023 with Sports Tours, despite being injured. “The atmosphere was incredible, the weather was perfect, and having Team Sports Tours cheering at mile 16 was such a boost!”

Sam’s infectious energy and passion for running made him a perfect fit for the Sports Tours team. After running the BMW Berlin Marathon in 2021 and meeting us again at the National Running Show, Sam joined us as a rep and hasn’t looked back since.

What Does a Sports Tours Rep Do?

Repping is much more than cheering on race day, it’s about ensuring every runner has an unforgettable, stress-free experience. Here’s a glimpse into what the role entails:

Pre-Arrival Preparation:
Reps scout out the local area, plan shake-out run routes from the hotel, and figure out the best routes to the expo and start line.

Welcoming Guests:
When runners arrive, reps are ready to greet them, answer questions, and ease any last-minute nerves.

Shake-Out Runs & Expo Visits:
Reps lead 5K shake-out runs, guide runners to the expo, and ensure they know the logistics for race day.

Race Day Support:
On race morning, reps escort runners to the start line or transport. Once the race begins, they head to designated cheer points to provide motivational support.

Post-Race Celebrations:
After the race, reps celebrate runners’ achievements, sharing in the joy of their success and hosting after-parties to cap off the experience.

“I love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and celebrating their achievements,” Sam says. “Our job is to take the stress off runners’ shoulders so they can focus on the race and enjoy their trip. Knowing they have someone to rely on makes all the difference.”

Being a rep also requires a personable, approachable attitude. “You’re the face of the company at the event,” Sam explains. “A friendly smile and reliable support go a long way. I’m passionate about running and repping, and I hope that shows when I work with clients.”

Repping isn’t just about logistics, it’s about being part of a community. From first timers chasing their dreams to seasoned marathoners aiming for new goals, every runner brings a unique story. As a Sports Tours rep, you get to be part of their journey and help make their marathon experience unforgettable.

For Sam, every trip is a new adventure. “I’ve enjoyed every single minute of repping with Sports Tours and always look forward to the next event. It’s a privilege to be part of such a passionate, supportive community.”
