Sports Medical Certificates; What You Need to Know to Race in Italy

The saying goes, ‘all roads lead to Rome’’. Rome features on most lists of must see European destinations, and it’s easy to see why. The city’s history spans over 28 centuries, and there is a host of incredible sights to discover; including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Sistine Chapel. The entire historic city centre has now been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is possible however, to make your trip to ‘the eternal city’, even more unforgettable. What better way could there be to see Rome in all its glory, then by participating in the 2021 edition of the Acea Run Rome the Marathon? With the Colosseum, a majestic backdrop for the start and finish; you too can conquer Rome at this race!

Sports Medical Certification

Of course you should always ensure you are fit and well, before taking on the challenge of a marathon. However, many sporting events, particularly those in Italy and France, require medical certificates  to prove that you are fit to participate. For marathons in Italy, there are a number of entry options which runners can select from to prove their eligibility to race. Please note, if you wish to participate in a race, but fail to specify your preferred entry option, option 3 is the default. Each of the options is outlined below.

This is slightly more complicated, as you will need to buy a Run Card for €15. As well as buying the Run Card, you will also be required to provide a Medical Certificate. For this, some testing will need to be done by your doctor, like an ECG, urine analysis, and a lung capacity test. Option 3, Non-Competitive Athlete.

If you simply want the marathon experience, you can run as a non-competitive athlete. In this case you don’t need to do anything.  You will simply sign a waiver, at the event expo, when you collect your race pack. This is the default option, if you do not specify otherwise.
