Exploring European Marathons in 2024

Many runners aspire to participate in the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors, but there are many other renowned European marathons that are worth considering. Running a marathon in a capital city or simply conquering a marathon that isn’t in your hometown are a few reasons why running enthusiasts choose an overseas event. The Medoc Marathon – 7th of September 2024

The Medoc Marathon is the longest, booziest race and a perfect social event to take on with friends. It may encourage everything that you shouldn’t do while running a marathon, but this marathon is about compulsory dress up, local delicacies and unlimited French wine. Combining sports, fun and food, people from all over the world flock to experience a one in a lifetime event.

The Dublin Marathon – 27th of October 2024

Dublin, a capital city that’s as intimate as a village and as friendly as an Irish pub, the Dublin Marathon is Europe’s 4th largest marathon and a global running event.  It’s also known for its relatively flat course, cool autumn weather and great crowd support. The course starts in Fitzwilliam Street Upper and finishes in Merrion Square close to the historic Trinity College, winding through the much-loved phoenix park.

 

The Athens Marathon – 10th of November 2024

The Authentic Athens Marathon brings history to life. Finishing in the stadium where the first Olympic games of the modern times in 1896 took place. This city welcomes you with an array of splendid monuments, from the temple of Olympian Zeus to the hilltop of Acropolis, with ancient buildings such as the colonnaded Parthenon temple. You too can run the unique route that played an integral part in Greek history, and the history of running as a whole!

 

The Valencia Marathon – 1st of December 2024

Much like the Berlin Marathon, the Valencia Marathon course is as flat as a pancake and is one of the world’s fastest marathons in Europe. The difference is that the Valencia Marathon route is mainly suburban, with a scenic stretch along the coast and many iconic sites throughout the route including the Jardin del Turia, Mercado de Colon and Palua de la Musica, finishing at the stunning Museo de las Ciencias Principe Felipe.
