Medoc Marathon

The Marathon du Médoc is a full marathon with 23 wine stops combining “wine, sports, fun and health”. Held every September in France’s Médoc region, the 26.2 miles takes runners – (in compulsory fancy dress) – through scenic vineyards and the participants are expected to indulge in 23 glasses of the famed red wine from this area on-route, while also stuffing themselves with local specialities such as oysters, foie gras, cheese, steak and ice-cream. Many of the 10,000 other participants have attended one of the event’s pasta parties the previous evening: a glorious mix of wine, carbohydrates and merriment designed, we suspect, to ensure that you forget you’re running a marathon the following morning.

Getting to Médoc

Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport (BOD): Located about 45–60 minutes from the heart of the Médoc wine region and the Marathon du Médoc start area.

• Car: Hiring a car is the most convenient way to travel from Bordeaux Airport or city centre to Médoc, giving you flexibility to explore vineyards and race locations. The drive takes approximately 1–1.5 hours, depending on your destination.
• Taxi: Pre-booked taxis or private transfers from Bordeaux Airport or train station to Médoc are widely available, with journey times around 1 hours

Getting around Médoc

• Car: As public transport in the region is limited, renting a car is the easiest way to get around, particularly if you plan to visit châteaux and vineyards before or after the marathon.
• Shuttles & Transfers: During the Marathon du Médoc, local organisers and tour operators often run race-day shuttles between accommodation, the start line, and key event locations
• Taxi: Taxis are available but less frequent outside major towns – booking in advance is recommended.
• Cycling: Many visitors choose to explore the scenic vineyards and wine estates by bike, especially in the days surrounding the marathon.

With Sports Tours, you never run alone. We’ll meet you at your hotel, escort you to the race expo and get you to the start line with ease. Join us for a 5KM shakeout run, meet fellow runners and celebrate together post-race.

Arrive in Bordeaux and make your own way to your chosen hotel in central Bordeaux. No need to go to the marathon expo as we have arranged for your bibs, t-shirts, booklets, and posters to be delivered directly to your hotel. The rest of your day is free to explore the local area and sample the local wines! Sports Tours Staff will be available this evening to answer any questions you may have.

A free day for sightseeing the local area. Enjoy all that Bordeaux has to offer. There is an optional extra for you to join the pasta party (with transport), which is located at a Vineyard 1 hour travel from the centre of Bordeaux. We will take you by coach from Bordeaux. Tickets are limited and are on a first come first serve basis. Please bear in mind your arrival time if arriving today.
Distribution of participant’s number and Marathon Expo are at the COSEC in Pauillac.

Today is the day. After an early breakfast a coach transfer from the hotel to the start. The Medoc marathon starts after the Pre-Race show and entertainment. Afterwards there will be a transfer back to the hotel. The evening is free for you to explore and celebrate.

You will have today to either recover, enjoy the sights of Bordeaux or head home. Another optional extra is for you to enjoy a relaxing walk in a Medoc vineyards for runners and their friends in Vertheuil. Registration limited to 3000 people. We will take you by coach from Bordeaux. If you wish to attend, please select the optional extra in the booking process.
